Miss Galland, born near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, barely makes our list of actresses who played Shakespeare. She made her stage debut in 1898 at the Providence Opera House as Lady Macbeth, and so far as I can discover this was the only time she ever played Shakespeare. She was only twenty-two and this was her first professional performance, so one can only speculate about how effective her part in Macbeth was.
She played off and on throughout the years, but she did not do many plays; all of them, however, were well received by the critics and her public. Her last professional appearance was in 1909, twenty-three years before her death.
