Faye Davis was born in Boston and began her career on the stage in recitations of poetry, passages from plays, and the like. She moved to England in 1895 and joined Sir George Alexander's company, and that was the real beginning of her stage career. In 1896 she played Celia and Rosalind in As You Like It and Hero in Much Ado About Nothing. She returned to America in 1902 where she played in New York City, and then went back to England where she acted in a number of roles in Shakespeare's plays: Rosalind (1907), Katherine in Waller's production of Henry V in 1908, and Juliet, Portia and Viola in 1909. She toured Germany and played the same parts later in 1909. Her last part in Shakespeare was in 1930 when she played Gertrude. She was married to a fellow-actor, Gerald Lawrence.
