Miss Illington, whose first stage appearance was in 1900, was a student at Conway's Dramatic School in Chicago where she won the Jefferson Diamond Medal for her work in Shakespeare's plays. Medal or not, the experience must have put her off the Bard; she joined E. H. Sothern's company where she played Juliet in 1911, but that is the last instance of her appearing in a Shakespeare play.
