Effie Shannon began her career quite early as an actress in a Shakespeare play; when she was the age of seven she appeared in Coriolanus;her interest in Shakespeare waned, however, and the only other character she played was Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dreamin 1886. She played dozens of roles with distinguished actors, but not in Shakespeare. One of her last parts was as Martha Brewster in Joseph Kesselring's popularArsenic and Old Lace;she played the part for two years.
