Frank Vernon's first stage appearance was in 1894 and a few years later he joined Edmund Tearle's Shakespeare company where he had his first parts in Shakespeare's plays. After acting with W. J. Holloway's company on tour in South Africa in 1898 and then taking roles in popular contemporary drama, he appeared in 1904 at the Court Theatre as Capulet in Romeo and Juliet. He turned to management in 1908 and directed Cymbeline and The Winter's Tale with Viola Allen in the leading parts. Before he went to war in 1915, he produced King Lear (1909) at the Haymarket Theatre. After the war he returned to the stage, but no other Shakespeare parts are listed among his credits. |
