Julius Caesar Ibbetson (1759-1817)
    Ibbetson was born in the north of England, where he returned to Yorkshire after coming to London in 1777. He was especially noted for his small portraits and his paintings of animals and rural landscapes. He was, according to the Dictionary of National Biography, "as a painter in oil of cattle and pigs" hardly excelled in England. Many of his paintings can still be found in private households in the north.
