John Hamilton Mortimer, Bardolph (1775-76)

Pen and ink, size approximately 9 x 11 inches, source unknown.

Bardolph is one of Falstaff's henchmen. He is a heavy drinker and Falstaff teases him about his red nose: "O, thou art a perpetual triumph, an everlasting bonfire-light! Thou hast saved me a thousand marks in links and torches, walking with thee in the night betwixt tavern and tavern" (Henry IV Part 1, III, iii).
