The photograph is probably from Matheson Lang's 1909 production of Hamlet at the Lyceum Theatre. London play-goers could also see H. B. Irving and Herbert Beerbohm Tree playing Hamlet in that same year.

On the card is a quotation: "Confess yourself to heaven," identifying it as a moment in Act III, scene iv.
