Matheson Lang as Hamlet
in Hamlet

The card has the legend "The Play's the Thing," indicating the moment in Act II, scene ii, when Hamlet, still doubtful about the ghost of his father, says it is the play "The Murder of Gonzago" that will tell him conclusively whether or not Claudius is guilty. "The play's the thing," Hamlet says," Wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king."

The card (#293X) was published by Beagles Postcards; the photograph is by the Daily Mirror Studios.
