Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Arthur Bourchier, and Violet Vanbrugh in “Henry VIII”
The scene is from Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree’s 1910 production of Henry VIII at His Majesty’s Theatre, London. Bourchier’s part as Henry was especially praised by the critics.
Vanbrugh also won critical acclaim in the role of Queen Katherine; the next year she played the part in a silent film. Her success in the role was such that in 1915 she was chosen to play Katherine in the “all-star revival” of Henry VIII at His Majesty’s Theatre, London.
Sir Herbert played Cardinal Wolsey in three major productions of the play in 1910, 1912, and 1915. Published by J. Beagles and Company (566.O) with a photograph by Daily Mirror Studios.
